Accessing the Red from Netley Creek

Hi All,

We are coming up today fishing tomorrow-Sunday. We stay up Netley Creek quite a ways with access to a boat ramp and overnight dock parking.

We've been coming for a few years now and there's been a day or so each trip where is challenging to get in/out of Netley in the shallow/marsh area about 3 miles up Netley (from the Red).

Given the low water conditions, our group is even more concerned about this crossing this low water area to reach the Red. I see a lot of South wind in the forecast. Uggg.

We keep an eye on the following:

Is the link above out best gauge (in conjunction with wind direction)?

We have a 17' Lund aluminum boat and a few other boats in our group that are bigger. Is there a channel/cut that's deeper through this marshy area?
Something else we are missing? Or are we looking at trailering to EOM or Selkirk if strong/consistent South winds ensue? Any advice from locals or those that know this area would be greatly appreciated. Thank You

I don't know Netley Creek very well at all, but the link I use for wind conditions is my go to.

Also try the "Back to Maps" tab in the top left corner, select your date and times, drag map to different areas, zoom in, etc. very informative on what to expect for wing speed and direction.

I have used that access point in Neatly creek over a week ago. The tough part is the launching and the first mile. After a strong south wind we tried to launch (Lund 16.5 with a 40 hp) The launch and the first mile 1 1/2 are tricky. The launch was not deep enough and had to push the boat off, truck bumper was in the water. The launch drops down but when you back up further the trailer goes up higher. There is another launch at the camp ground but I don't know how that one is. The other tricky part is once past the campground the water is shallow......very shallow. Motor is up and has to idle through. Depth finder said zero and leaving a mud trail in the water. I don't know how a bigger boat would have gotten through. 1/2 a mile of that stuff. One past it the water was no less than 4 feet the rest of the way to the Red. The North Wind was blowing most of that day and it put the water up another foot which made it easier to come back. However it was still tricky. Best to try End of Main launch.
