no boat launch but you can carry a canoe with a trolling motor if you park on the gravel road.

I believe they were talking about the Shoal Lakes West of Teulon in the Interlake, not the Shoal Lake in Lake of the Woods, mostly in Ontario.

It's more like they used to catch there! I hear that there are still some caught there in small numbers, but with very few bigger ones. After the flood in 2011, it boomed for a few years but it died substantially to almost non-existent in the last few years. It is not what it once was!
