I have been hearing that lake of the woods is still open which is a bit of a cause for concern for our annual ice fishing trip beginning on boxing day. We will be in the Sioux Narrows area and basically I am wondering what bodies of water freeze earliest in the area if lake of the woods is still open.
What were you originally wanting to fish for when you went up?
Lake Trout was out because of the date obviously. So were you looking for Pike, Walleye or Crappie?
Our bay had a bit of ice. Enough for a rabbit to run on it. Suppose to be a bit cooler the next couple of weeks. Looked like Andy Lake had ice. Be careful where ever you go. Any water movement and the ice could be very thin. Lyon Lake had a few people out on it.
Probably walleye for the most part but might do some pike or crappie as well. Pretty much whatever the whether and ice will determine. Thanks for the info guys
Was in Kenora today. Still nothing frozen over(LOTW, Falcon), which is good with this snowfall. It should cool the water, and we won't have that large dump insulating thin ice....
Just went and checked the ice on our bay. Not strong enough to hold up my 200lb son. He found that out the wet way.
