Misplaced fishing licence

Just wait till we get E licenses and we lose our phone in the hole or over the side of the boat. Sure as [emoji90]I would get checked if that happened to me. I still like the Ontario way with the outdoors card. For me I renew every three years. No worries of getting that card wet. It’s always in my tackle box.

Might be a dumb question. Why would you even have to worry about your phone. If it’s electronic they run your name. You show your photo id to confirm you’re who you say you are and voila the CO pulls you up in the data base. Or am I totally misunderstanding something.

Do CO’s have a way of checking that data if they’re on a sled or even in their truck? I don’t know as I’ve never been checked in Manitoba.

My reply was to 660catman who was wondering what would happen if a person had phone issues after the province has gone to electronic licensing. I’m thinking they would be able to get wifi in their vehicles same as RCMP, hydro and MTS are able to do.

I take it then they would have to have satellite enabled wifi. I know the Whiteshell, LW and LM would be covered with normal service. Up north where I go a lot, forget about normal service. There is none! Not sure of coverage on Whitemouth Lake, not that I ever go there.

I'm not sure what the rules in ON are, but here is the message I received when purchasing the license:

"Thank you for your recent activity on Ontario’s Fish and Wildlife Licencing Service.
For your convenience attached is your licence summary and receipt (if you made a purchase). The licence summary can be printed anytime or can be saved for use on your mobile device. If you have any questions, contact the Natural Resources Information and Support Centre at 1-800-387-7011."

I think you still have to produce it as a printed copy or on your phone. The gas station in ON printed it out for me and said that I needed to keep a copy with me.

Ontario has what they call an outdoors card. Card is good for three years. You can buy a one year fishing license but you then have to renew license every year. You can renew online and print off license and carry with your card. I buy a card and three year fishing license so I know when my card expires, so does my license. And Ontario is by calendar year.

shouldnt be that hard to find, he said he has sequential license numbers?????

Still has the wife's license.

I find it hard to believe a government agency will store these in any type of order whether numerically, alphabetically or by vendor. And then look for it to prove you bought one and didn’t follow the law of carrying it on your person when fishing. Then again I could be wrong and it all works out in the end.

I also think it all depends on what conservation officer stops to check on you and how you respond to them questioning you. Have been stopped and had to show my licence six times last year and all in different locations of the province. Twice I showed them the paper copy and the other four times showed the copy that was on my phone and had no issues doing so.

And to me there’s no reason why they can’t use a photo of license. It’s yours and you have your drivers license that was used for ID when you bought it.

You can't record the info necessary when retaining a Walleye over 70cm on the back of the photo of your licence on your phone. I guess that's the reason why.

Makes sense but only if you do keep it. If you would never keep it, it’s the same as the hard copy.
