Misplaced fishing licence

Hello. Just had a frustrating thing happen to me. I put my wife’s and my fishing licences together every year. They are purchased at same time, have sequential registration numbers and all. We were being checked the other day and mine was not there. Misplaced or lost. Whatever. My fault for not checking. I received a ticket for fishing without a licence, and my question would be. Should it not have been a ticket for not being able to produce it? When we purchased a licence there is an original book with the carbon copy’s in it. Would a copy of that help?

Thanks for your input.
Nope, you must have told the officer you didn't know where it was (misplaced or lost), not that you left it somewhere else (knew where it actually was) and could produce it at a later date. The department is not obligated nor will they do a search to verify if you actually purchased one.....the onus is on you to produce the original. They insist on the original as there are situations (caught and retained fish of a certain size) where you must sign and date the back of the licence. It's also illegal to have two licences for the same reason. The fine is correct.

Possible that the prosecutor will be understanding and toss the ticket after being shown proof one was purchased. Who knows, he may find the original and bring it as proof.
The receipt books with the carbon copies are all sent back to the dept. They surely won't go thru them all to find the specific carbon copy so as to help the charged person out..........especially since it's only the original that will help.

Take a picture of it. Everyone carries a phone nowadays
Not accepted, has to be the original. Even if your charged with "failure to carry", you still have to provide the original. If your charged with "fishing without" it's a done deal...... unless you plead not guilty (because you actually found your original) go to court and then the fine gets reduced to "failure to carry", the difference in the fine is $124.....need to ask yourself if it's all worth it?????

I take it then they would have to have satellite enabled wifi. I know the Whiteshell, LW and LM would be covered with normal service. Up north where I go a lot, forget about normal service. There is none! Not sure of coverage on Whitemouth Lake, not that I ever go there.

Both my GMC's have/are WiFi hot spots enabled thru OnStar. WiFi everywhere! As well phone service via satellite. Phone service everywhere!

shouldnt be that hard to find, he said he has sequential license numbers?????
Still has the wife's license.

You think when the 100's of retailers send their books back to the dept.....someone sits there and sorts them so all the books are in sequence?

Especially since a copy will not do or prove anything, it needs to be the original, the original is the only copy accepted, period.

And to me there’s no reason why they can’t use a photo of license. It’s yours and you have your drivers license that was used for ID when you bought it.

You can't record the info necessary when retaining a Walleye over 70cm on the back of the photo of your licence on your phone. I guess that's the reason why.

Red River from the Canada/US border to Lake Winnipeg and all
tributaries between Lockport Dam and Lake Winnipeg - anglers may
retain only 1 walleye longer than 70 cm per year. Licence holders who
catch and retain one of these fish must immediately record the date
on the back of their licence. The walleye/sauger limit is 4

so if i read this correctly , if your not fishing this particular area, where a signature is needed, why do you need a paper license, It's states on the red from the border to the lake , if you keep one over 70cm you must sign, anywhere else is it needed??????????????
if not therefore a copy should do??????????????proof
........how do they know you have never fished the area and should have filled out the back of the licence even if you are not stopped in that designated area at that specific moment.

Hey, I don't make the rules, I just read and understand them.......it's pretty clear, need the original.
