Heading to Lockport this morning, not sure if I have enough shrimp. Does Stu or the other tackle shop sell bait? Thanks in advance

Best place to get shrimp is the Super Store grocery. Look in the frozen fish department for boxes of Thai shrimp, heads on. A box is about $10 and you get 30 or more shrimp. I let them thaw over night and they're good to go the next morning. I pierce them behind the head, thread the hook through until I can swivel the shrimp enough to pierce it again thru the tail. If I'm having trouble keeping the shrimp on the hook, small pieces of elastic band works well holding them in place.

Where does one get goldeye? Sold in stores? Want to go straight to cat fishing, don't want to fish for them.
why buy the milk when you get the cow for free?

you're doin' it wrong. to answer the Q, no idea. I can afford the 5 minutes it takes to setup and catch my bait. :envy:

Hey snomad we saw you out there we where to your left down river a bit we only fish 4hrs but what numbers approx 30. Don't you love triple headers when you are guiding, you where having fun on the net. Yes goldeye was number one. Average size was good all so, but those pesky drum. A great morning.

It was a busy net day. There were a lot of fish dropped today too, otherwise I think it would have been a new record in the boat. Two biggest were 37" and 38". The 37" went 28lbs and the 38" was a pound lighter, weighed in the net with the net weight subtracted. That 37"er had shoulders. You've got to have real good timing to manage the pictures of triple headers without stressing the fish. Had two pictures of triples last year on clients cameras that went AWOL. I am going to make up some sort of net cradle to weigh the odd large cat in. I had to stand on my seat and hold the net up real high with the scale to try to weigh those two and it was very hard to get a stable reading with my arms shaking from the strain. I won't use the lip grabber to weigh fish or any type of hook scale. Way too much stress on the fish. I see way too many big cats being held up with lip grabbers and IMO it's not great for the fish. As a guide it would be great to have a trough shaped bump board with a built in scale. Every fish weighed and measured in seconds!
