I managed to get some time off work, so we booked a last minute trip with Donovan from Blackwater cats. We went on Thursday and it was a beautifully warm day with calm water. We started fishing at 8 am, stopped for dinner at 2:30 pm and then went back out from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We were fishing out of Gull Harbour on Hecla Island. We set up in about 20 feet of water on the edge of a drop off down to 40-60 feet. There must have been about 20 boats around us and all were catching the occasional fish but we were hammering them. It was definitely better being on the edge of the drop off compared to boats that were further from the edge. It was almost steady action until about 1 pm when things started to slow down. We would occasionally get a 10-15 minute break before another school moved through. Donavan said it was the first time he fished the same spot all day. We finished the day with 5 masters, a 28”, 28 1/4”, 28 1/4”, 29” and a 29 7/8”, plus a lot of 24-27 inch fish. It was a great day of fishing.
