Hey guys, the tune-up work continues in preparation of the Ice fishing season.
I move sloooooooow so between work, family, and a little Television time ...
Today, I thought to remove the spark plug and inspect it for possible replacement & to check the spark plug gap.
You'll need a 3/4" spark plug socket & ratchet (or a deep socket will do), Spark Plug gap gauge, and possibly a new Spark plug. Eskimo recommends an NGK. Sometimes some plugs work better than others even though they may be the same type.
* The plug was replaced last year by "Y_ _ M _ _ S" so I was pretty confident that it'd be OK.
There was a little more fouling than expected given the plug was newer. So I cleaned it up with an old toothbrush and a little alcohol (not the kind you'd drink ... that'd be a waste LOL).
Check the gap and found it to be 0.024 ... whaaaaaat?
After checking the service manual ...
I learned that the plug type (BM6A) was right for my Z51
But the gap was wrong. It's suppose to be 0.028" not 0.024"
Z71 motors take a different spark plug (BPMR7A) and are gapped to 0.024"
What's 4/1000" between friends?
It can mean pre-ignition (LOL).

Some spark plug gauges are not fine enough to measure the gap properly.
I used the style in the picture, which works great. It even has a hole for bending the ground electrode open/closed.
Good luck, EH.
