Drove out at Balsam Bay along with 50 other trucks and cars. There is a solid 12-15 inches of ice. Ice was smooth as a babys butt for about 1 mile out. I fished a couple of hours in numerous spots and never marked a fish. i never marked any bait fish either. Talked to Craig Stapon who was marking some but could not any to commit except for a 4-5lb Pike.

I fished in 9-14 ft of water. The water clarity was around 12 inches. Talked to a couple of conservation officers who were checking people and they only saw 2 fish in the pails. They reported that compliance was good among those fishing.

I was by myself and would have liked to fish further out by the ice ridge but didn't feel comfortable without another truck to follow. The ice had been broken up and I don't think it is as thick further out.
