Clearwater Lake trip

Have to work a day up in The Pas June 8th so turned in into a fishing trip. Staying at Watchi Bay Bed & Breakfast between The Pas and Clearwater.

Hoping a few days of Laker. If assume they will still be a bit shallower in 30 to 60 with the late ice? White tubes? Going to stop by Pete's for some bait.

Also if wind is bad or just cause hoping to get to Rocky lake for some smallies. Figure they will for sure be up shallow and fun to catch!

I don't know where the best place to launch at either is?

Thoughts? Tips? Ideas? I can't wait!

If the weather is bad, it would be well worth your time to hit up Barbie lake....Rainbows are aggressively feeding in June and can be a ton of fun either off shore, or even better in boat! Small lake so wind isn't a factor.....also consider Cormorant which will be non stop walleye action...cookie cutter smaller ones for the most part but would be very memorable......

I’ve got to agree with Wayne, barbe would be one worth the effort and time to go check out

I don’t have a ton of experience in the area, but I feel like your best options for launching would be in sunset bay or campers cove which are at the south west corner of the lake, closest to where I think you’re staying.

Definitely keep barbe Lake in mind! Walleyes aren't big on my list as I go for those most of the time.

2oz white tubes are my favorite for Clearwater. Tip them with minnows or sucker belly. That is a good depth for June fishing. Give the pike a try in the shallows too, you'll see giants swimming around.

Hit up Barbe if the wind is really bad.

Watching.

I'm planning to be up here in July for a week. I'll be shore and canoe fishing when possible.
What's the spot to go to on barbe? Or is it just casting around? Mepps and spoons?

Any hazards to know about in that lake?

You'll catch pretty much anywhere on that lake. Some of my best days have been trolling straight down the middle. No hazards that would surprise a person but there are some areas that get shallow quick if you're trolling the shore line. Easy lake to get used to, water clarity is really good, on a calm day you'll easily see 10+'. Dragging wooley buggers is simple and effective. If there's braided line on your reel, put something like 20' of florocarbon on the end. Running a split shot about 4' ahead of the bugger to help get it down a few feet further helps, play around with different size split shots.

Well day one on clearwater. Hit the water with my fiance around 1130 after working the am and fished till 4. Drifted near the pump house in 20 to 40 feet with tubes tipped with suckers and no luck. Trolled deep tail dancers in 20 to 35 feet in the same area and caught my first Laker. Only a 25 incher but was fun! Wished for better fishing but take what I can get. Hitting barbe in the early am.

Well headed to barbe early am. Fished for about 5 hours. Within first 10 minutes at the ramp caught a 24.5 rainbow on all things a small tube jig. Giant school possibly trying to spawn? Maybe 30 fish.
In total got 9 fish (all in other parts of the lake) mostly on drop shot with trout power bait. Didn't have a float but think that would have worked real good. May go back again.

Well last day of fishing before heading back. Didn't hit the water till around 5 because of wind. Went to Clearwater and launched at the pump house. Rollers where still pretty big so headed out to about 45 ft and jigged for an hour with only one bite as we rocked up and down in The swells. Went into 25 go 35 feet closer to shore which was a bit more sheltered. Trolled tail dancers again but could only hit 1.5 to 1.8mph with the trolling moter with the win. Fired up the main engine and could do 2.4 to 2.6 and as soon as we did we caught 8 in the next 2 hours. Spent more time resetting that fully trolling. All between 21 and 28 so nothing giant. Clown color was the go to but got one on a silver black as well.

Overall a solid and fun trip! Happy we put some fish in the boat!
