The high floodwaters of the red river are proving to be a real thorn in the side of anglers this year. The only way to describe it is relentless. The fishing conditions are very difficult and without a good anchor, heavy weights and lots of experience it can prove to be a frustrating day. There are however still plenty of cats there to be caught it is just a matter of getting to them. We have had numerous successful guests trips this year along with a bunch of personal outings with friends and the fishing has still been pretty good especially considering the conditions. 8 - 12 Cats boated per trip with numbers of lost and missed fish seems to be the norm, which is half of what we were getting last year. Lots of small fish mixed with the bigger ones and some fat tanks to boot.

The shallow edges where you can actually get anchored have had fish but they seem to be here today and gone tomorrow. Moving around has been key to getting the numbers. Both Sucker and Goldeye have been working well so far with Goleye starting to outproduce the rest and that’s the Blackwater Bite!
