Exclamation Late Spawn in Duck and Porcupine Mountains

Hello all,

I received a note today from my colleagues working near the Duck and Porcupine Mountain areas:

"Recent cool weather has slowed the thawing of lakes and is delaying the spawn of important recreational fish species. With the angling season opening soon, many anglers will be taking to the water during peak spawning period. We respectfully request that anglers release fish that are spawning. We thank all anglers for being selective in the fish they choose to harvest."

Have a great open-water angling season everyone!

Remember to be selective in the fish you choose to harvest, and practice good catch-and-release techniques for the ones you choose to release.

Real good advice! I would think that the late spawn would apply to LW and most all waterways across the province this year.

Unless the boat has a 2” thick steel plate across the hull and that person plans on being an ice breaker there won’t be any boats on the lake for a couple of weeks. Forecast calling for cold nites in the -5 and colder range all next week. Won’t help the melt or the spawn.
