Default Drone videography

Hey guys,
Can be a game warden or can be anyone who is informed or can point me in the right direction.

Just wondering about the legality of flying a drone to video large game in Manitoba, like deer, elk moose or anything else for that matter.

Most places Iíve looked, itís good as long as you arenít too close and my drone is less than 250grams so it is considered a toy and not subject to a lot of the laws the bigger ones are

Thanks in advance

If your scouting for hunting purposes then it’s a definite no go. If just taking pictures I’m not really sure.

This is like the bait controversy in the fishing guide. The hunting guide says you canít use it while hunting or while accompanying some who is hunting. It may be an issue during hunting season dates even though youíre clearly not hunting. Off season may be a different story.

I believe these are the latest rules concerning drones. Fair amount of information in the internal links.

"The changes brought by the new regulatory framework are too numerous to list off and explain in this post, however, if you fly drones in Canada, you should read through the regulations at the link above very carefully. It only takes about an hour of your time, and is well worth it!"

From the General Hunting Regs. 351/87 (WLA) SEC. 9.1(1) Drones prohibited- A person must not operate or possess a drone while hunting or while accompanying another person who is hunting. Also in the Wildlife act or the guide it gives the definition of hunting as chase, harass, worry etc.
So as long as only taking pictures would be good to go as stated. Stay healthy.

Iíll likely have to get decent enough altitude befor approaching anything then, so they donít hear the propellers hum.
...if they spook then immediately stop what Iím doing and return to point of takeoff as to not worry, spook, or harass the animals
