You can't ATV in on the trail into Elbow, signs are posted, CO's will fine you. I know, as I was half way down the trail (tried to fish Rumble Lake for rainbows) and they came in on their ATV's and kicked me out. They agreed my set up was very trail friendly (I was towing a little 12' tinner) and I was doing no damage or littering or anything else. In fact, their two quads were the same as mine, but not as well equipped. Didn't matter. There was a sign, but I though it applied to wither time as the trail is a Snomad trail. Not allowing people in on ATV's to fish a stock rainbow lake is absolute total BS, but oh well. The gov anti-ATV agenda wins again.

There's no problem at all regarding current. Just got back from my second trip up to Snowshoe Lake. Its beautiful country, easy paddling and the fishing is awesome.

If you are only going as far as Elbow I would suggest going to the north end of the lake and staying at one of the campsites up there. For the extra hour or less of paddling it's worth it, fishing and camping wise.

Pike and walleye were biting well on "the classics": jigs/twisters, spoons, Xraps, etc.
Fished hard as evenings progressed with 2 incidents of watching grown loons being taken from below by BIG northerns in great explosions. No trophies caught but lots of eater-size walleye and pike, walleyes were topping around 18" or so and diddn't really break the 30" barrier on pike. As for portages, the 2nd @ approx. 400m was quite muddy and made movement difficult. Others were pretty good though. Sadly no pics, since the camera was left in the truck
As for spots...... My lips are sealed, you can save the adventure for yourself!

Walleye were biting good. Trolled crank baits mostly, Live Target worked the best. Son landed his first MA pike, 41 1/2".

Awesome!

I guess this gives me an excuse to buy some new cranks. Have yet to try Live Target baits.

What depth did you have the most success? Were you trolling the shore lines?

My LT runs deep, usually dragging bottom. I believe I have been fishing in 7-12 fow, but no electronics trolled marshy areas about 50 yards out, and rocky points looking for structure. Once I found some fish, used jigs/worms. What an awesome canoe route! I hope it always stays nice. Portages were well groomed, and most of the campsites did not have much garbage. Hope ur time there is excellent, let us know how it goes.
